A wonderful welcome as always Our third visit. Very peaceful and quiet as always. We shall return again next year.. A wonderful welcome as always. Tony and Stephanie, Poole, Dorset, UK. July 2018.
We found Les Bruyéres by chance. We had decided to rent a house in France but not specifically where. Already in the initial dialogue with Nina and John, we felt that we chose the right house in the right region. John responded quickly to the questions we had, which enabled us to plan our trip efficiently. When we arrived at Les Bruyéres we were not only taken by the beautiful surroundings, we were also welcomed in the best possible way and could quickly make us feel at home. The countryside surrounding Le Mesnil Gilbert is amazing. Les Bruyéres is located on the slopes of Mont Buon with a magical view of the surrounding countryside. We hope we can return soon.
We rented a car which allowed us to explore Normandy properly. It became a positive experience for us. We were lucky with the weather and could combine warm and sunny days on Carolles-Plage with discovering all the history that Normandy offers. We really felt we were in a region that has played a major role in Europe's history. Do not miss the landing places in Arromanches and Omaha Beach or Bayeux and its museums as well as the world heritage St Mont Michel. Great Visits! We also visited the zoo in Champrepus which became an appreciated day for our daughters.
Nina and John recommended great restaurants near Les Bruyéres. Because our entire family is interested in food we therefore want to recommend Auberge du Moulins. They offer french fine dining for the whole family regardless of age. Our daughters really appreciated how their menu was presented and served. John was kind enough and gave us a ride to the restaurant. Much appreciated!
Our stay in Les Bruyéres was pleasant and memorable. The house and the surrounding garden is a wonderful environment for a family. But, above all, it is Nina and John's hospitality we want to emphasize. Thank you for making us feel at home right away - it was really nice to stay with you on your property! Tyra, Vera, Karoline and Jesper from Sweden June 2018.
Very helpful and welcoming owners. A comfortable and enjoyable stay. They offered to take and fetch us to a nearby restaurant one evening, so that we could have a glass of wine. What a great service! Lovely countryside, pity we had such a lot of rain, but we did complete a 1000 piece jigsaw. A lot of interesting history in the area. Penny S. Hampshire. September 2017.
A very pretty and well equipped gite in a lovely setting. We had a very enjoyable holiday here. The gite is very pretty and well equipped, with a lovely garden. The gite is well situated being not too far from a local boulangerie in the local village and from a supermarket in the nearest town, and from all the interesting places to visit. During our stay we went to the landing beaches at Arromanches, canoeing, Mont St Michel at night to name just some of the places we went to visit and also Alligator Bay, St Malo Aquarium and Champrepeus Zoo to satisfy the kids! We would love to come and stay again! Tracey, Chris & Family, Essex. August 2017.
Very comfortable with lovely garden and welcoming owners. Booked Les Bruyeres after reading great reviews - not disappointed. Beautiful cottage in peaceful setting with all mod cons and great base for touring Normandy and eastern Brittany. Book it!! Frances, Paul & Family, Yorkshire. August 2017.
Returning for a third visit in 2018. Another fabulous holiday - wonderful welcome as before. Excellent facilities and superb surroundings. We're returning for a third visit in 2018. Tony and Stephanie, Poole, Dorset, UK. July 2017.
You won't be disappointed. Just returned from 10 days stay in John and Nina's marvellous holiday cottage. Any doubts about holidaying here, stop worrying, you won't be disappointed. A great welcome from John and Nina who were on hand for any problems, not that there were any, but not intrusive in any way, delightful hosts. The cottage is equipped with everything anyone could want and very comfortable. It is in a lovely secluded location yet within easy reach of the village and a host of holiday visit destinations. The garden is a work of art and obvious love and attention. Thanks John & Nina for making our first French trip minus a caravan an amazing experience. Barry & Helen, Northumberland, UK, July 2017.
"Our" Summer Cottage. (From HomeAway.co.uk website) We had a wonderful three week stay at the cottage and hope that we can come back some time in the next couple of years. The cottage is bright and tidy and has all the modern conveniences--dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and many electrical outlets in the all the rooms. The kitchen is well equipped with nice dishes, silverware and cooking pots. (Sometimes we've stayed in other places where it seems like the 3rd best stuff is in the cottage; not this cottage, it's all the best stuff). Our hosts, John and Nina live right next door to the cottage. They are friendly and we saw them often but they were not intrusive. And what can I say about the garden? It is stunning! Finally, the location is convenient to many of the Normandy attractions. We visited the beaches three times in three weeks. Also a nice day trip from Mont St. Michel as well as St. Malo in Brittany. In addition to the "attractions," many of the nearby towns have market days so we were able to get fresh food several times. There is also a nearby grocery store for everyday stuff. All in all we had a great time and I'm already missing Les Bruyeres. Sarah and Stuart, Roseville, Minnesota, USA. June 2017.
Outstanding property with peaceful, serene surroundings and exceptional views. Wonderful, helpful hosts. (From HomeAway.co.uk website). The property was well defined however the beauty of the location is beyond the description. It is a perfect rental opportunity for 2 couples or a family. It is centrally located making day trips to numerous historical sites in Normandy and Brittany possible. An amazing restored barn that is very comfortable and well fitted out. Large kitchen allows easy food preparation and dining in comfort. The down stairs also has a large living room allowing for relaxation after a day of exploration and a half bath. The upstairs has two nice sized bedrooms (one en-suite) along with a bedroom with twin beds and a full bath with access via the hall. The entire suite was very clean and well maintained. The hosts provided very helpful information pertaining to the area along with a series of moving stories written by local residents that described how civilians were impacted by the WW II occupation. In summary an outstanding rental property with fabulous hosts who were always available on site. We sincerely would like to thank John & Nina for the opportunity to stay at their property and we are hoping we will be able to return in the future. Strongly recommend without and reservations!! Tom and Diane, Massachusetts, USA. May 2017.
Fantastic Cottage. Fantastic cottage. Fantastic views. A very restful stay and the kids have truly enjoyed the garden and feeding the donkeys next door. John kindly took us to the restaurant and brought us back. The food at the Moulin de Jean was delightful. Will be recommending "Les Bruyères" to family and friends. Thank you. Dhiran and Leena, Solihull, UK.
Relaxing Getaway This property is well situated between Normandy and Brittany allowing us to take daily trips which were no longer than two hours from the home. The countryside is beautiful. I stayed with my husband and son, and his wife. We all had plenty of room. We used the outdoor grill almost every night and enjoyed sitting around the spacious kitchen table for dinner. All being said, a great vacation spot. Susan G. New Jersey, USA. September 2016.
A lovely stay It was a great base to explore thae delights of Normandy and Brittany and we visited so many lovely places. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay and have done so already to some of my friends. We hope to visit again some day. Anon. August 2016.
Exceptional property Our hosts warmly welcomed us with wine, fruit and flowers which set the tone for the entire holiday. The listing description was accurate with very high standards of equipment provision and cleanliness. The house was very well maintained. The surroundings and panoramic views of the countryside were superb and we would have no hesitation in highly recommending the property to family and friends. John and Nina went out of their way to ensure that our stay was memorable. Anthony T. Poole, Dorset. July 2016.
Wholeheartedly recommend without reservation The cottage was roomy and all features as advertised. We concentrated on Normandy but the location is good for exploring much of eastern Brittany as well. We would return without hesitation and wholeheartedly recommend it to others. Michael M. Florida, USA. June 2016.
Amazing! The cottage was lovely, clean, well equipped and comfortable. The gardens surrounding the cottage gorgeous. The location perfect, about an hours drive from the landing beaches. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would love to go back. Nelly V The Hague, Holland. August 2015.
We would definitely return They were very friendly and welcoming, the house is beautiful and the garden stunning. It,s such a great place to completely switch off due to the peaceful location, but there is also lots to do just on the doorstep (horseriding, kayaking, eating!!). We would definitey return. Helen I Nottingham. July 2015.
A well appointed property in a great location We had a great week enjoying both the cottage and the surrounding area. The gardens are a delight, the views amazing and all is quiet with just the sound of birds. A place for quiet reflection. In spite of being tucked out of the way it is within easy reach of many attractions. Would recommend this property to anyone. CW Haywards Heath. June 2015.
Relaxing holiday in a beautiful cottage We stayed a week in this beautiful cottage. It is exactly as described, maintained to a high standard, very well equipped and very clean. The garden and view are magnificent. They provide plenty of information about the surrounding area, where to shop, local markets, places to visit and nice restaurants. A week was not enough and would definately return and wholly recommend this property as a base for trips out or a haven of peace and quiet to recharge the batteries. MH Bootle. June 2015.
Fantastic cottage in a great location We would highly recommend this cottage. The owners have taken great care in renovating it and creating a fantastic garden for the enjoyment of all who stay. It is easily placed for visiting all that Normandy has to offer. John S., Bristol. May 2015.
A wonderful base from which to explore Normandy This is a wonderful base from which to visit the many and varied attractions of Normandy. We visited WW2 sites, the Bayeux Tapestry, Mont Saint Michel and myriad other places. We hope to return one day. Chesham Family, April 2015.
The perfect place to relax We came for the World Equestrian Games but this was the perfect place to relax after a few days travelling around. Enjoyed the gîte, the gardens, visiting Carolles-Plages and driving around the lovely Normandy countryside. Hope we can come back and spent a bit more time next time. Whitmarsh family, Wiltshire, September 2014.
The best we have experienced An excellent cottage renovated and refurbished to a very high standard with everything you need to make it feel like home. Excellent local bakery. Several restaurants of high quality very close and night,s transport offered by the owner very welcome. The owners could not be more helpful or welcoming and have excellent local knowledge. They are there if you need them but never intrude. You have your own private space but they love sharing their garden with you. With 40 years experience of staying in France, this is the best we have experienced. August 2014.
